In this workshop we’ll play with some approaches for jumping back & jump through, including beginner stages (walking/stepping back/through, lifts, etc.) and breaking down the movement and breath of some seated transitions. Great for practitioners of all levels to play with and discover different approaches for these transitions! We’ll start with a brief standing sequence and use the vinyasas in the first half of primary series to play with these ideas. The workshop will also include time to work on other transitions you may be interested in!
Amanda is an Ashtanga practitioner in Camden/Rockport who recently moved from Vermont, where she studied and received an RYT-200 from Kathy McNames at Yoga Vermont. She enjoys the challenges that Ashtanga presents every day in simply starting to practice, and the community feeling of being part of a tradition. Plus, it’s fun! She has attended numerous Ashtanga workshops and visited lots of studios in her travels, including workshops with David Swenson & Shelly Washington, David WIlliams, Peter Sanson Sharath Jois, and Saraswathi Jois. She finally “got” jump-backs in November 2016 after coining “No Excuses November” and trying to keep her feet off the ground!
Moriah Helms started practicing Ashtanga in 2010 and she has never looked back. The vigorous, disciplined practice of the primary series awoke in her a sense of freedom, competence, and well-being. Moriah teaches out of a love for the practice, and is excited to be bringing Ashtanga to Midcoast Maine. Moriah's classes are challenging yet accessible, and she works to create a warm, fun atmosphere. Before moving to Maine, Moriah studied with Christine Hoar in Bristol, VT, and feels fortunate to have also worked with Nancy Gilgoff in 2017.
